Google Alerts, Blogs and Deep Dives: Keeping Up with Deregulation

February 7, 2017, The National Law Journal

Keir Gumbs is featured by The National Law Journal in an article about the role of outside counsel in keeping clients abreast of the changing financial regulatory landscape under President Trump. “To be honest, I think what I find myself doing and other regulatory lawyers doing is not that dissimilar to what [reporters] do,” says Gumbs. This includes setting up new Google alerts, scouring the SEC website on an almost daily basis, scanning blogs, and checking in with SEC staff. “That’s basically a couple of hours of work every day just to stay up on what’s happening,” Gumbs adds.

Gumbs also states that he has urged companies to prepare for rules until the SEC formally takes them off the slate. “The last thing you want to do is not be prepared to implement a rule that’s on the books when you’re required to comply with it.”
