Latest Regulatory and Policy Initiatives on Plastics in the EU, Selected Member States and the United Kingdom: What Companies Need to Know

  • Friday, January 22, 2021

Within the next months, several major EU requirements and restrictions on plastic materials will enter into force. These requirements are part of the EU implementation of its 2018 Strategy on Plastics, 2019 Green Deal, and 2020 New Circular Economy Action Plan. EU Member States and the United Kingdom are also adopting legislation on plastics that in many cases impose additional restrictions on marketed plastic products.

This on-demand briefing provides an overview of existing and upcoming rules on plastic products in the EU, selected Member States, and the United Kingdom after Brexit. Among other things, the briefing reviews the upcoming marketing restrictions, taxes, consumption reduction goals, labelling requirements, waste take-back obligations, definitions of plastic and biodegradability, and explains how companies can comply with the requirements and challenge Member State restrictions that go beyond the EU rules.
