The Defend Trade Secrets Act of 2016: What You Should Know About the Federal Legislation

Date: Wednesday, October 26, 2016 8:00 AM - 09:30 AM

Venue: Garden Court Hotel, Palo Alto, CA

On May 11, 2016, President Barack Obama signed the Defend Trade Secrets Act (DTSA), which amended the Economic Espionage Act of 1996 to create a federal civil remedy for trade secret misappropriation and modernize trade secret protection by creating a unified, consistent body of federal trade secret law nationwide.

Join members of Covington’s Trade Secrets and Data Privacy and Cybersecurity Practice Groups for an engaging discussion on what we have learned since the DTSA was enacted in May and practical tips for every in-house counsel.

Topics will include:

  • Scene setting: What were the issues that necessitated reform and what are the key provisions of the DTSA?
  • The current climate: What are the early returns on the DTSA?
  • Practical tips/best practices: What do in-house counsel need to know about the DTSA? How can in-house counsel mitigate trade secret, privacy, and cybersecurity risks?

Covington's panel will include:
