Please describe your military service.
I served on active duty for 11 years in the U.S. Navy as a MH-60 helicopter pilot. During that time, I completed two deployments aboard the aircraft carrier USS John C. Stennis in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation New Dawn. I currently serve as a Judge Advocate in the U.S. Navy Reserves.
What was most surprising to you as you transitioned from active/reserve duty to life in a law firm?
I was actually surprised how many parallels there are between active duty and life in a law firm, especially on a litigation team preparing for trial.
What advice would you have for your younger self starting out in the legal profession?
I have only been practicing for two years, so I am still very new at this. But I tell myself to seek out opportunities and soak up as much information as possible. And try to enjoy yourself along the way.
How has our Veterans Affinity Group contributed to your experience at Covington?
The Veterans Affinity Group has allowed me to connect with other veterans who have transitioned into a legal career. It has also helped me find opportunities to work on pro bono matters assisting other veterans.
