April 2, 2019
WASHINGTON—Covington has chosen Washington partner Brianne Bharkhda to be a member of The Leadership Council on Legal Diversity’s 2019 class of Fellows. Ms. Bharkhda will participate in programs designed to identify, train, and advance the next generation of leaders in the legal profession.
Ms. Bharkhda is a litigator who represents a variety of clients in high-stakes patent litigation. She focuses her practice on complex pharmaceutical patent litigation, and has litigated numerous cases involving generic drug approvals and the Hatch-Waxman Act. She has experience representing clients at all stages of litigation, from case inception through trial and appeal. Her trial experience in intellectual property actions includes both jury trials and bench trials involving issues of patent infringement and validity.
Covington litigation associates Shailee Sharma and Udit Sood will participate in the LCLD Pathfinder Program designed for diverse, high-potential, early career lawyers. The program aims to assist the “Pathfinders” with critical career development strategies including leadership and the building of professional networks.
Ms. Sharma focuses her practice on high-stakes commercial and mass tort litigation. Ms. Sharma has experience in the various stages of litigation, from development of case strategy through trial. She has also played significant roles in investigations by federal agencies and independent investigations commissioned by boards of directors.
Mr. Sood focuses his practice on high-stakes commercial litigation, particularly patent infringement and trade secret misappropriation in the high technology, gaming, and telecommunications sectors. His recent cases, for example, have involved technologies relating to satellite Internet, set-top boxes, slot machines, cellular communications, and information security. He also takes on a wide variety of pro bono matters, including LGBTQ+ discrimination cases as well as disputes involving environmental and animal welfare issues.
Founded in 2009, LCLD is an organization of more than 300 corporate chief legal officers and law firm managing partners—the leadership of the profession—who have dedicated themselves to creating a truly diverse U.S. legal profession.
