Covington Shortlisted for Three Chambers USA Awards

April 7, 2011

WASHINGTON, DC, April 7, 2011 — Three practices at Covington & Burling LLP have been nominated for the 2011 Chambers USA Awards for Excellence. The firm received team nominations in the antitrust, insurance, and international trade categories. The awards recognize the firm’s pre-eminence in key practice areas and significant achievements over the past 12 months, including notable work, strategic growth, excellence in client service, and contribution to the legal profession.

Covington’s global antitrust practice is chaired by the two most recent heads of the Justice Department’s Antitrust Division, Tom Barnett and Deborah Garza. The firm recently bolstered its antitrust capabilities by bringing in three lawyers with more than three decades of EU experience to the Brussels office and adding five highly-regarded antitrust litigators in Washington. The practice group and the senior lawyers are ranked by Chambers.

Covington’s acclaimed insurance recovery practice represents corporate policyholders pursuing coverage for a wide variety of high-value claims, including mass-tort liabilities, property and business interruption losses, and D&O, E&O, and numerous other exposures. Covington’s policyholder practice has received the Chambers USA Award for Excellence in Insurance two years running. Five of the twelve individual lawyers that Chambers USA places in its highest band as the best in the nation are Covington partners on the East and West Coasts.

The firm’s international lawyers have assisted numerous private companies and governmental entities in successfully navigating the trade laws of the United States and other countries. The international trade practice has been recognized by Chambers for several years, and includes highly-regarded Stuart Eizenstat, noted export control lawyer Peter Flanagan, and CFIUS practitioners Mark Plotkin and David Fagan. The group advises on international trade compliance and market access issues, including export controls, economic sanctions, national security reviews of foreign investments, anti-corruption laws, market access, and international trade disputes. The firm’s Chambers ranked presence in Beijing enables us to provide expert and specialized assistance to clients doing business in and from the United States, Europe, and Asia.

The Chambers USA Awards for Excellence is an annual event hosted by Chambers and Partners, and coincides with the release of the annual Chambers USA guidebook. This year’s event is scheduled to be held on June 9 at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York.
