Partnering Against Money Laundering and Corruption in South Africa and the Subregion

  • The Venue Green Park, 20th Floor, Cnr West Rd South & Lower Rd, Morningside

Corruption is a complex barrier to development in Africa. The scale and ease with which illicit assets flow in and out of the region pose a significant threat to stability. An estimated 4% of continental GDP is lost annually to illicit financial flows, increasing organized crime such as state capture and the corrosion of corruption defenses.

The National Business Initiative (NBI) together with the Basel Institute on Governance and the Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE), and Covington invites you to an upcoming Thought Leadership Series: Partnering Against Money Laundering and Corruption in South Africa and the Subregion.

This important event will unpack the evolving role of business in reducing illicit financial flows in the South Africa Sub-region to boost market growth, development, and strengthening of governance systems. As part of the solution to combating corruption in the private sector, the NBI is launching the ‘NBI Ethics and Anti-Corruption Course,’ the first in a series of training courses under the Building Trust and Accountability Pathway.

The discussion will be framed around the following key elements:

  • The risk and regulatory landscape, focusing on evolving regulations and risk patterns.
  • Exploring Public-Private Partnerships in the region - Highlighting the importance of working together to prevent money laundering and financial crime.
  • Business Taking a Stand - Responsible Businesses are partnering with Law Enforcement and using best practices and tools how to ensure Ethical Leadership.

Please RSVP should you wish to join us as we unpack the role of the private sector in curbing illicit financial flows.
