Eric Holder Sworn in as Attorney General

WASHINGTON, DC, February 3, 2009 — Eric H. Holder, Jr. was sworn in today as the Attorney General of the United States, having been confirmed yesterday by the Senate. This morning’s swearing-in ceremony took place at the Justice Department, and the oath was administered by Vice President Biden.

Mr. Holder, who was a partner at Covington & Burling LLP for the past eight years, previously served as Deputy Attorney General, the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, and a Judge of the Superior Court for the District of Columbia.

Timothy Hester, the chair of Covington’s management committee, commented: “Those of us who have had the privilege of working with Eric Holder know that he will be an outstanding Attorney General and will bring great honor to the Department of Justice. We will miss him here, but are of course heartened by the knowledge that our loss is the nation’s gain.”
