Covington Achieves “Mansfield Rule Certification 2.0 Plus” for Diversity
Firm Also Commits to “Mansfield 3.0”

WASHINGTON—The Diversity Lab, an incubator for ideas and solutions that boost diversity and inclusion in law, has certified Covington as having achieved the “Mansfield Rule Certification 2.0 Plus” after completing the twelve-month certification program.
The "Mansfield Rule Certification 2.0" measures whether law firms have affirmatively considered at least 30 percent women, lawyers of color, and LGBTQ+ lawyers for leadership and governance roles, equity partner promotions, formal client pitch opportunities, and senior lateral positions. To achieve the “Plus” certification, firms also had to reach at least 30 percent women, lawyers of color, and LGBTQ+ representation in current leadership roles and committees.
"Covington is committed to achieving further diversity and inclusion within our firm, and we see this as fundamental to our long-term success," said Timothy Hester, Covington’s chair. "We are extremely proud to be recognized by Diversity Lab for having taken many different steps to improve the diversity of our law firm and the representation of diverse lawyers among firm leadership, although we recognize that the job is never done."
Covington has also agreed to participate in "Mansfield 3.0," which will include lawyers with disabilities as well as women, lawyers of color, and LGBTQ+ lawyers as part of the diverse candidate pool.
