National Law Center on Homelessness & Poverty Honors Eric Holder

WASHINGTON—The National Law Center on Homelessness & Poverty honored Covington partner and former U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder with the Outstanding Achievement Award for his work in identifying and ameliorating federal policies that target the criminalization of poor people. 

The Law Center highlighted Mr. Holder’s leadership role overseeing the government’s efforts to address many critically important issues arising at the intersection of law and public policy, including reform of the federal criminal justice system, which has disproportionately affected poor communities of color. The Law Center also noted Mr. Holder’s labeling the trap of poverty, crime, and imprisonment a “vicious cycle” in poor communities that needs intervention. 

Founded in 1989, the Law Center is the only national organization dedicated to using the power of the law to end and prevent homelessness and to protect the rights of people experiencing homelessness.
