Alexia M. Romero advises clients on compliance issues that arise under anti-corruption laws, including the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (“FCPA”).   • Advised food and beverage, pharmaceutical, and medical device companies on third party due diligence and related risk mitigation in Latin America and Europe.
  • Developed anti-corruption policies, procedures, and training presentations in Spanish and English for pharmaceutical and medical device companies.
  • Conducted anti-corruption due diligence for potential acquisition of a pharmaceutical company.
  • Represented a pharmaceutical company in a DOJ/SEC investigation concerning alleged violations of the FCPA in Latin America.
  • Obtained declination from the DOJ following a multi-year FCPA investigation.

Litigation

  • Represented global agricultural company in connection with alleged violations of U.S. terrorism-financing laws in Latin America.
  • Represented pharmaceutical manufacturer in multiple industry-wide lawsuits alleging pricing fraud.

Pro Bono

  • Represent plaintiffs from each of Ohio’s congressional districts challenging Ohio’s current congressional redistricting plan as an unconstitutional partisan gerrymander that violates the First Amendment, the Fourteenth Amendment, and Article I of the United States Constitution.
  • Represented multiple Salvadoran nationals in connection with applications for U.S. immigrant visa and citizenship.
