Salah Mattoo’s practice focuses on international arbitration, public international law, internal corporate investigations and complex cross-border litigation in the English and overseas courts. He also advises clients in a range of industries on anti-corruption compliance matters. He has represented clients in arbitration governed by the rules of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA) and The United Nations Commission on International Trade (UNCITRAL). He has also advised a respondent state in a contentious case before the International Court of Justice (ICJ). Mr. Mattoo advises on matters concerning a number of industries, including energy and natural resources, technology and financial services (MLA).

  • Represented an international oil company in two separate LCIA arbitrations seated in London concerning unpaid cash-calls under a joint venture agreement relating to assets in Angola (LCIA Arbitration, London).
  • Advised an oil major in an ICC arbitration dispute seated in Geneva relating to concession agreements in Egypt (ICC Arbitration, Geneva).
  • Advised a UK based private equity company in a LCIA arbitration in relation to a sale of cement company to an Italian private equity company. This dispute concerned a number of issues, including fraudulent misrepresentation and valuation of the target (LCIA Arbitration, London).
  • Advised a respondent state in a contentious case before the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
  • Represented the oil trading affiliate of a major international oil and gas company in a multi-party arbitration seated in Stockholm under the UNCITRAL rules. This dispute related to the operation of complex calculations in an oil transportation agreement and the impact of a previous arbitral award on 12 parties to the dispute (UNCITRAL, Stockholm).
  • Represented an international oil and gas company in the High Court (Commercial Court) and the Court of Appeals in relation to its jurisdictional challenge. This dispute concerned unpaid invoices of a third party in an off-shore pipeline installment project in the Dutch Continental Shelf.
  • Advised a leading multinationals oil and gas company in relation to BIT and contractual claims at ICSID concerning exploration, development and production of petroleum in Nepal.
  • Advised a leading multinational oil and gas company in relation to an application for injunctive relief pursuant to section 44 of the Arbitration Act of 1996.
  • Represented an oil major in relation to BVI insolvency proceedings and high court (commercial court) declaratory proceedings in relation to termination of loan agreements, joint bidding agreements, and joint venture agreements concerning oil concessions in Egypt.
  • Represented a leading U.S. software developer in an UNCITRAL arbitration seated in London concerning a healthcare related software/IT dispute between the UK government and a Japanese IT company (UNCITRAL, London).
  • Represented a Greek real estate investment company in an UNCITRAL arbitration seated in London concerning shareholders agreement and project coordination agreement related to construction of the largest shopping mall in Athens, Greece (UNCITRAL, London).
  • Represented a Turkish garments manufacturing group in a LCIA arbitration concerning €50m dispute with a Hong Kong based consumer goods, design, development, sourcing, and logistics company. This dispute concerned sale and purchase of a Turkey based apparel manufacturing company and earn-out obligations under the SPA (LCIA, London).

  • Represented an individual in a family law matter concerning validity of marriage.
  • Advised tenants in a dispute concerning “advance rent.”
  • Assisted an individual in a matter concerning annulment of marriage and forced marriage before the New York courts. This case also concerned honour killings.
