Representation of Raycom’s CBS-affiliated station in Cleveland in opposing a newsgathering restriction imposed by the mayor of the City of Cleveland. A Covington partner testified in favor of, and played an advisory role in crafting, federal legislation to limit “libel tourism,” the practice of libel plaintiffs suing U.S. publishers abroad. The resulting legislation, the SPEECH Act, unanimously passed the House and the Senate and was signed into law in August 2010.
