    Rani Gupta is a litigator who represents corporate policyholders in high-stakes insurance coverage disputes.

    Rani has played a leading role in several high-profile insurance coverage matters, including obtaining an arbitration award in favor of an energy company pursuing insurance coverage for product liability claims; representing a managed care provider in a $100 million insurance recovery action that resolved favorably after key rulings in the insured’s favor; and successfully arguing an appeal in a COVID-19 insurance coverage case.

    Rani has helped obtain hundreds of millions of dollars for her insurance policyholder clients for a wide range of losses, including product liability, class action, antitrust, environmental, asbestos, construction, and abuse and misconduct claims. She litigates and arbitrates coverage under a wide variety of insurance policies, including property and business interruption, general liability, errors and omissions, cyber, and directors and officers policies.

    Rani has been named a Rising Star in Insurance by Law360 and one of the Top Women Lawyers in California by the Daily Journal.

    • Represent policyholders, including two national sports leagues, in litigation to recover billions in losses related to the COVID-19 pandemic under property and business interruption insurance policies. Argued appeal resulting in published California decision reversing dismissal of COVID-19 insurance coverage complaint without leave to amend.
    • Represented a managed care provider in $100 million insurance recovery action. Secured appellate reversal of adverse trial court ruling and subsequently obtained summary adjudication against insurers.
    • Represent oil and gas company in pursuing insurance coverage for hundreds of millions in third-party claims arising from use of insured’s product. Obtained arbitration award in client’s favor.
    • Represent public university in seeking insurance coverage for settlements related to sexual abuse by a university doctor.
    • Represent mining companies in insurance coverage and bankruptcy litigation arising from asbestos and talc lawsuits.
    • Represented a property developer in seeking insurance coverage for lawsuits arising out of the construction of a 58-story apartment tower in downtown San Francisco.
