Covington Presents at Leadership Council on Legal Diversity Conference

August 7, 2018

This summer, Covington special counsel Mónica Ramírez Almadani gave a presentation about DACA litigation at the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity (“LCLD”) Pathfinder Alumni Conference at the W Hotel in Hollywood, California. Ms. Almadani provided an overview of the history of the pending litigation across the nation regarding the U.S. Administration’s decision on September 5, 2017, to rescind the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (“DACA”) program. During the presentation, she also discussed the impact that the decision has had on immigrant communities and shared her thoughts on where the litigation and administration might proceed from here based on her experience in both the California Attorney General’s office and Department of Justice advising on immigration issues. During the interactive session, Ms. Almadani fielded questions from the audience about different arguments that states have used to challenge the Administration’s actions to terminate DACA.
