Diversity Summit for Summer Associate Candidates

Covington hosted its second annual Diversity Summit for prospective 2017 summer associates earlier this month, inviting students from law schools across the nation to the firm’s global headquarters in Washington to learn more about the firm’s commitment to diversity as well as meet a wide-range of diverse lawyers from a multitude of backgrounds and practice areas.

Management Committee member Mike Labson and Diversity Committee co-chair Mike Imbroscio opened the summit by highlighting Covington’s longstanding history in advocating for diversity and inclusiveness and emphasizing the importance of diversity both as a core value and an integral part of the firm’s strategy. Summer Co-Chair Keir Gumbs then moderated a panel of associates drawn from a range of practices spanning regulatory, corporate, public policy, and litigation matters, who talked about some of their current matters and answered questions about their experiences with mentoring, affinity groups, selection of their respective practice area(s), pro bono matters, and the general assignment process. The conversation continued with a rooftop cocktail reception and concluded with small group dinners hosted at the homes of various African American, Asian American, Hispanic/Latino, and LBGT Affinity Group partners.
