Brexit: mutual recognition hope for lawyers

Lord Francis Maude and Carl Bildt are quoted by The Law Society Gazette in an article regarding post-Brexit mutual recognition arrangements. According to Maude, it would be “very surprising if mutual recognition arrangements” could not be sorted out relatively easily. He adds that continuation is likely because the “benefits on both sides” are now well-established.

According to Bildt, “justice” is an area where early agreement between the EU and UK can be reached. However, that while the UK government expected Article 50 and interim arrangements could happen “in parallel,” the EU negotiating team did not match that expectation. “Their mandate is just a divorce mandate,” he notes.
