Mr. Collins is resident in our New York office.  His practice concentrates on financings (including high yield debt), acquisitions, and project development in the energy industry.  Mr. Collins has substantial experience in representing energy clients on a broad array of financing techniques and products, including (among others), multi-tiered secured bonds and loans, term loan B transactions, unsecured bonds and loans, asset based financings and monetizations, non-recourse and limited recourse financings, working capital credit facilities, letter of credit facilities, stapled financings, bridge financings, and recapitalizations and restructurings.  Mr. Collins has also represented energy clients in debt tender offers and consent solicitations.

Representative Matters

  • OptiSolar Inc. in the sale of its project development business to First Solar, Inc. in an all-stock transaction valued at approximately $400 million.
  • ICICI Bank Limited, India’s 2nd largest bank, and Standard Chartered Bank, India’s largest international bank, as joint lead arrangers for an aggregate of $925,000,000 in project financings supporting two separate projects being undertaken by subsidiaries of Reliance Industries.
  • Calpine Corporation and its subsidiaries in more than $22.0 billion of capital markets financings and $6.5 billion in bank financings.  One transaction on which Mr. Collins worked in 2004 and two transactions from 2003 were named “deals of the year” by a Euromoney project finance publication.
  • Lightyear Capital’s acquisition of California power plants from Tractebel Energy, including a stapled financing which funded the acquisition.
