Our Life Science practice has focused on corporate and transactional matters for life sciences clients ranging from private, venture-backed biotech companies to multinational pharmaceutical companies.  The focus of our practice is strategic collaborations and complex licensing transactions, acquisitions and divestitures, spin-outs, venture investments and commercial agreements in the biopharmaceutical industry. 

San Francisco’s Life Sciences lawyers have substantial cross-disciplinary experience in transactional, regulatory and intellectual property experience, as well as significant international experience in the major pharmaceutical markets, including practice experience in the European Union and Japan.  Our attorneys have been honored in The Best Lawyers in America (2007) for their expertise in Biotechnology Law and PLC - Life Sciences, Which Lawyer? (2005-2006).

Recent representations include:

  • Gilead Sciences in a series of joint ventures and collaborations with Bristol-Myers Squibb and Merck for the worldwide development and commercialization of a triple combination HIV therapy.
  • Procter & Gamble Pharmaceuticals in antitrust and unfair competition litigation involving authorized generic pharmaceuticals.
  • The Institute for OneWorld Health, a non-profit that develops new drugs for neglected diseases, in negotiating collaborations with UC Berkeley and UCSF. 
  • Asahi Kasei Pharma in the spin-out of a late stage drug candidate, and a $39 million venture financing of the spin-out, Artisan Therapeutics.
