Laird Hart is a trial lawyer who has been involved in litigating a variety of insurance coverage disputes and other civil matters, including contract, product liability, fraud, antitrust, family law, and trust and estate claims.  He has participated in jury and bench trials on behalf of such clients as Dow Corning, 3M, the Washington Post's subsidiary Legi-Slate, Warner Lambert, Narragansett Electric Company, and the State of Minnesota and has been active in numerous lawsuits that were resolved by motion or settlement prior to trial.  In addition, he has argued cases in the D.C. Court of Appeals, the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, and the Supreme Court of Minnesota, has participated in arbitrations and administrative agency hearings, and has been appointed guardian ad litem by the D.C. Superior Court in several child custody cases.

Before coming to Covington & Burling in 1983, Mr. Hart was a staff attorney with the Committee on Standards of Official Conduct of the U.S. House of Representatives, and had brief stints as a staff reporter for The Wall Street Journal and as a financial analyst for the budget office of the U.S. Virgin Islands.
