Robert Gage is head of the firm's real estate practice and advises clients on matters including acquisitions, finance, leasing, and general commercial and non-profit organization law.

He has been counsel on transactions that include the acquisition and development of headquarter facilities for the National Academy of Sciences, the American Center for Physics and the Potomac Electric Power Company; the development of Bridgemarket in New York City; the development of the Washington Nationals’ baseball stadium on behalf of the D.C. Sports & Entertainment Commission; the development of Olde Towne, Raleigh, NC; and the redevelopment of The Brookings Institution’s headquarters and property.

He has handled significant leases on behalf of American Council of Life Insurers, American Petroleum Institute, American Truckers Association, and the Government of the District of Columbia, as well as scores of trade associations, not-for-profit organizations, and law firms.

Mr. Gage serves as principal counsel to a number of organizations, including:

  • Carolina Communities Development Group, LLC, a land acquisition and development company, and its home-building affiliate, Charleston Homes, LLC
  • Ourisman Automotive Group
  • The Brookings Institution
  • Union Station Redevelopment Corporation, lessee from the United States Government of Washington, DC's Union Station

Representative Matters

  • Union Station Redevelopment Corporation. Act as outside general counsel, including recent negotiation of air rights development agreements with respect to the Amtrak railroad yard, and design, project management, and construction agreements and related financing for its Phase II expansion of the parking garage serving Union Station in Washington, DC. This award winning multi-year redevelopment project marked a renaissance for interstate passenger rail.
  • Protestant Episcopal Cathedral Foundation. Act as outside general counsel and advise the Foundation on continuous work on more than $60 million worth of design, project management, and construction contracts for Protestant Episcopal Cathedral Foundation, constituting major capital improvement projects on the Cathedral close, including recently the Cathedral’s structured parking facility, the renovation of Beauvoir School and reconstruction of the Centennial Hall classroom building.
  • Carolina Communities Development Group, LLC. Act as outside general counsel representing CCDG in significant land development projects in North Carolina, including a 600-acre golf course mixed-use community in Raleigh, NC, involving multiple joint ventures, land acquisitions and land sales among participating development and home building companies, and a 332-unit luxury apartment community in a close suburb of Raleigh.
  • GOJO Industries, Inc. Frequently represents the company in complex matters, including the design and reconstruction of the 260,000 square foot former B.F. Goodrich World Headquarters in Akron, Ohio, as GOJO’s headquarters, and other construction and development projects.
