When commercial insurance is unobtainable or too costly, Covington's policyholder coverage practice helps clients to develop alternative underwriting programs such as "captive" insurance entities.
We have played a substantial role in establishing two group captive companies, including Primex, Ltd., which provides general liability coverage to chemical manufacturers, and FIRG, which provided directors' and officers' liability insurance to bank holding companies. We have also advised a number of other companies about captive insurance arrangements. Working closely with our Tax Practice Group, we help companies to design alternative underwriting programs that will maximize the financial advantages of such programs.
