We appreciate the importance of finding approaches other than litigation to resolving disputes. Covington lawyers have broad and longstanding experience in the use of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) at both the domestic and international levels. Our work encompasses advocacy before arbitrators and mediators, as well as litigation about arbitration that focuses on enforcement of arbitral agreements and awards. In addition, many of our lawyers serve as arbitrators and mediators, either by ad hoc appointment or as members of standing panels established by judicial bodies or prominent arbitral institutions. One of our energy team members has substantial experience with energy industry ADR and serves as national manager of a project on ADR in the energy industry.

- Served as a mediator and successfully resolved a range of matters in dispute between Pacific Gas & Electric Company and the City/County of San Francisco.
- Served as a mediator in a dispute between an oil and gas producer and an international bank.
- Served as a mediator in a disputer involving alleged energy market manipulation and FERC tariff violations.
- Serving as a mediator in a dispute between an energy trading company and a financial firm.
- Represented SDG&E in an arbitration against the California Independent System Operator in a dispute involving assessment of transmission loss charges.
- Served as a mediator in a dispute between a prominent financial investor and a Regional Transmission Organization (RTO) over liability for acquisitions of financial transmission rights.
