Meena Sharma is an associate in the International Trade practice group.  Ms. Sharma’s practice covers international export controls, sanctions, foreign investment, and anti-corruption.

In the area of international trade, Ms. Sharma counsels companies on US sanctions and export regulations administered by the U.S. State Department’s Directorate of Defense Trade Controls (DDTC), the Commerce Department’s Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS), and the Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC).  She also provides advice to companies on compliance, licensing, and enforcement actions and has assisted companies in conducting internal investigations and filing voluntary self-disclosures with DDTC, BIS, and OFAC.

Ms. Sharma also represents and advises clients seeking national security approval for foreign investments before the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS).  In the area of anti-corruption, Ms. Sharma has assisted companies in conducting internal investigations in connection with potential violations of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA).  Additionally, Ms. Sharma advises international companies on creating and implementing anti-corruption programs and assists companies with anti-corruption due diligence reviews related to acquisitions.

Representative Matters

  • Counsel clients on the interpretation and application of the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and assist with the preparation of license applications and registration with DDTC.
  • Assist clients, including Fortune 100 company, in preparing voluntary self-disclosures to DDTC, BIS, and OFAC.
  • Counsel clients on the regulations and national security review of foreign investment.
  • Conduct internal investigations in connection with potential violations of the FCPA, including investigation into Indian subsidiary of a US corporation.
  • Advise on the development and implementation of export controls and anti-corruption compliance programs for global consulting companies.
