John Hall is a litigation partner in the Washington office who heads the firm’s Trials group.
A former Assistant United States Attorney with extensive trial experience, Mr. Hall has a wide-ranging civil trial practice involving complex commercial disputes, intellectual property, products liability, insurance coverage, business torts, and unfair competition. Mr. Hall also represents individuals and companies in white collar criminal defense and investigations.
Most recently, he has served as lead trial counsel for Congoleum Corporation in a $500 million insurance coverage case in New Jersey state court. Other recent matters include the representation of a Johnson & Johnson subsidiary in Hatch-Waxman patent litigation, the defense of Procter & Gamble in consumer fraud and false advertising claims, and the representation of Chiquita Brands in mass tort lawsuits brought by Colombian nationals under the Alien Tort Statute.
In the pro bono area, Mr. Hall supervises the firm’s indigent defense trial program, in which associates are regularly given the opportunity to try appointed criminal cases in state and federal courts.
Mr. Hall lectures in trial practice at the University of Virginia Law School and is a frequent speaker on the art of oral advocacy to business and law groups across the country. He also serves as a subcommittee co-chair of the American Bar Association’s Trial Practice Committee.
In addition to his nearly twenty years of experience as a trial lawyer and federal prosecutor, Mr. Hall served early in his career as a top aide and campaign manager for former U.S. Senator John C. Danforth and former Missouri Governor (now U.S. Senator) Christopher S. Bond. In 1992, he was a candidate for Attorney General of Missouri.
