Helena Milner-Smith is an associate in the international employment group, helping companies navigate international HR-legal compliance issues.

Ms. Milner-Smith's practice includes implementing global employment contracts, policies and codes of business conduct, managing multi-country reviews and projects, advising on the employment aspects of large-scale corporate reorganisations, handling disciplinary and grievance matters and dismissals and negotiating settlement agreements.  She has successfully defended clients in the UK employment tribunal.  Ms. Milner-Smith has also gained valuable in-house experience while on secondment at three large multinational corporations - a pharmaceutical company, an oil company and a leading investment bank.

Ms. Milner-Smith regularly speaks at client seminars on recent developments in employment law and has published articles for both client publications and legal journals.

Representative Matters

  • Advising a multinational retail client on the implementation of global employment contracts, policies and business code of conduct.
  • Assisting a multinational professional services firm with the management of pre-employment background checks and monitoring of ICT systems for employees in Europe.
  • Assisting a leading health care and medical research company with employment-related data privacy issues arising in 21 jurisdictions as a result of its global demerger, including its policies, procedures, HR guidelines and employee notifications.
  • Representing an international pharmaceutical company in defending several claims in the UK employment tribunal, including unfair dismissal and race discrimination.
  • Advising an international media company on its restructure, including managing collective and individual redundancies.

  • Advising a global charity in relation to expatriate contracts and policies.
  • Representing a global charity in defending allegations of unfair dismissal and whistleblowing.
  • Nominated for the LawWorks Pro Bono Award for Best Contribution by an Individual in 2012 and 2010.
