Henry Liu practices in the firm’s trial and appellate litigation practice, with a particular emphasis on energy, antitrust, and financial services matters.  Mr. Liu has worked on a variety of cases encompassing antitrust, white-collar defense, consumer class actions, and administrative appeals.  He also handles regulatory approvals for energy-related transactions and pre-merger notification filings under the Hart-Scott-Rodino Act.

Representative Matters

  • Advised clients on clean technology matters in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
  • Advised a major financial institution on FERC rules and policies with respect to investments in jurisdictional assets.
  • Representation of a major utility in insurance coverage litigation relating to environmental clean-up costs.
  • Representation of a trade association in litigation relating to renewable fuel standards.
  • Representation of a national bank in class actions involving posting of debit-card transactions.
  • Representation of major financial institutions in unfair competition and false advertising cases.

Pro Bono

  • Briefed and argued a federal habeas appeal before the Third Circuit on behalf of an inmate who had been incarcerated for over twenty years.  The Third Circuit held that the state trial court had denied the inmate’s Sixth Amendment right to represent himself and instructed that the inmate be released.  Alongi v. Ricci et. al, 06-4419, 2010 WL 663630 (3d. Cir. 2010).
  • Represents two African American plaintiffs in an race discrimination suit against their employer.
  • Represents a Maryland inmate seeking DNA evidence to establish actual innocence.
