George Frampton is senior of counsel in the firm’s Washington office and a member of the Clean Energy and Climate industry group.

Mr. Frampton served as Chairman of the White House Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ) from 1998 to 2001, and most recently as Co-Chairman of the Obama transition team for CEQ.

As Chairman of the White House Council on Environmental Quality, Mr. Frampton was the President’s principal advisor on environmental policy matters leading a staff of two dozen environmental professionals.  Prior to heading the CEQ, Mr. Frampton served from 1993 to 1997 as Assistant Secretary of the Interior for Fish, Wildlife and Parks, with responsibility for supervising the National Park Service and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.  He chaired a number of government-wide major regional initiatives within the Clinton Administration including restoration of the Florida Everglades Ecosystem and distribution of funds from the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill Restoration Fund.  Prior to his government service from 1986 to 1993, Mr. Frampton was president of The Wilderness Society, a non-profit organization devoted to preserving wilderness and wildlife.

Mr. Frampton has represented clients in complex litigation, and environmental and energy matters including corporate strategy.  He represented Vice President Gore on a Justice Department inquiry into fundraising matters.  Mr. Frampton also has significant non-legal business experience as corporate adviser to Earth Satellite Corporation and currently as an Operating Advisor at Pegasus Capital Partners, a private equity firm based in New York.

  • Watergate Special Prosecution Force, Assistant Special Prosecutor, Mr. Frampton was one of a team of six attorneys under two special prosecutors that conducted the grand jury investigation and trial of the Watergate Cover-up Case. (1973-1975)
