Fuad Rana is an associate in the firm’s litigation and white collar practice groups, with a particular emphasis on defending criminal and regulatory investigations and proceedings as well as related civil litigation.  He has significant experience in complex civil litigation case management and trial preparation in multi-issue and multi-forum cases, including those involving securities, antitrust, insurance, and intellectual property issues.

Representative Matters

  • Represent Chiquita Brands International, Inc. in mass tort lawsuits brought by Colombian nationals under the Alien Tort Statute.
  • Represented corporate and individual clients in connection with federal investigation into alleged violations of various US antiterrorism laws.
  • Represented former CEO of publicly-held financial institution in an SEC action alleging securities and accounting fraud as well as in tag-along class action securities litigation.
  • Defended senior airline executives in criminal antitrust investigation into alleged cartel activity in global air cargo and air passenger industries.
  • Conducted internal investigation for an international development organization into allegations of corruption and mismanagement by senior staff in poverty-alleviation projects.
  • Litigated to favorable settlement an antitrust and patent suit alleging the creation of illegal patent pools, manipulation of the patent process, and abuse of standard setting processes.

Pro Bono

  • Successfully first-chaired a jury trial in Virginia state court involving the defense of a criminal prosecution on charges related to intoxication and public misconduct.
  • Briefed and argued appeal before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit on behalf of a state prisoner serving a life sentence asserting novel post-conviction claims.
  • Represented foreign national in asylum-related proceedings before the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.
