Ellen Eliasoph is partner in the firm's Washington and Beijing offices.  She has spent more than 25 years in China, Hong Kong and Japan and has a unique understanding of the legal, regulatory and public policy issues that often vex US and European clients doing business in those territories.  Ms. Eliasoph has worked on many cutting-edge transactions in the media and entertainment industries, as well as with many leading companies and policymakers throughout the Asia-Pacific region.  Her particular areas of expertise include the creation and operation of joint venture enterprises, the creation, protection and exploitation of film and television properties and other intellectual property-based products and services, and the translation of sophisticated business and legal concepts across national borders.

Representative Matters

  • Representation of foreign film and television producers in China, Hong Kong and Japan on the following projects: The Painted Veil, Survivor (season 15), The Last Samurai, and numerous Chinese and Japanese-language productions (animation, television shows and feature films).
  • Establishment of Warner China Film HG Corporation, the sole foreign-invested joint venture film studio in the People's Republic of China.
  • Negotiation of the purchase of the Golden Harvest Film Library by Warner Bros. and HBO.
  • Negotiation and structuring of branded retail franchises throughout the Asia-Pacific region.
  • Market entry negotiations for film distribution in China, Indonesia and Korea, television channels in China and Taiwan, and multiplex cinemas in Taiwan and China.
