Diversity
At Covington, we recognize the differences among us as an asset and a source of strength. We actively seek men and women of diverse racial, ethnic, geographic and economic backgrounds, political affiliations, and sexual orientation. Covington lawyers bring a wide variety of backgrounds, perspectives, and life experiences to our practice. By recruiting, retaining, developing, and promoting a diverse group of lawyers, we advance the interests of our clients, our practice, and our entire profession.
Our first women and minority partners were elected more than 30 years ago. Women, African-American, Hispanic, Asian-American and openly gay lawyers hold senior positions throughout the firm, including on the Management Committee and in practice group leadership. Today the firm has 35 women partners, 5 African-American partners, 4 openly gay partners, and 2 Hispanic partners. In all, over 80 of our lawyers are African-American, Asian, Hispanic, or openly gay. Just as important, over 90 percent of our women and minority partners joined the firm as summer associates or associates, and were promoted from within our ranks. Covington is recognized as a leader not only in attracting minority lawyers, but also for providing opportunities so that all lawyers can successfully pursue rewarding legal careers.
Covington’s Diversity Committee works diligently to frame and support our workplace diversity efforts, including: working with firm leadership to recruit and retain lawyers of diverse experiences and backgrounds; promoting an open dialogue at the firm on issues of diversity; and fostering an environment in which diversity can flourish.
