More than 800 lawyers practice in Covington’s Beijing, Brussels, London, New York, San Diego, San Francisco, Seoul, Shanghai, Silicon Valley, and Washington offices and are involved in an extraordinary range of practice areas.

Our New York office is dynamic and growing, now numbering over 110 lawyers.  We have two main practice groups of roughly equal size — corporate (including bankruptcy, tax, and benefits) and litigation.  Our New York lawyers represent some of the world’s leading technology companies, financial institutions, and multinational manufacturers, as well as media and entertainment firms.

Corporate

Our corporate department is engaged in a broad range of transactional work, including mergers and acquisitions, securities, corporate governance, finance, bankruptcy and reorganization, intellectual property (including Internet and new technologies), real estate, and tax.  Our clients include large multinational corporations, financial institutions, and private equity clients, as well as start-up and midsize private and public companies and entrepreneurs.  Our corporate lawyers often draw on Covington’s vast regulatory expertise in areas such as communications, food and drug, transportation, energy, financial institutions, environment, antitrust, and international trade.  By integrating our transactional and regulatory expertise, we are able to assist clients in structuring transactions creatively and in solving complex multidisciplinary problems.

Litigation

Our litigators are seasoned trial lawyers, with the credibility and experience to handle the most difficult business and regulatory disputes.  Our civil litigation practice focuses on complex securities and other commercial disputes, bankruptcy, corporate control, and executive employment.  Our white collar criminal defense practice, featuring several prominent former federal prosecutors, represents corporate and individual clients in a broad range of matters including criminal prosecutions, regulatory investigations, and enforcement proceedings.  We also represent corporations and corporate boards in major internal investigations arising from suspected misconduct and legal violations by corporate officers and employees.

We know that the character of our future is tied to the quality and energy of those who join us now.
