Diversity
At Covington, we recognise the differences amongst us as an asset and a source of strength.  We believe that excellence in the practice of law knows no racial, ethnic, gender, religious, sexual orientation, or other boundaries.  Covington lawyers and trainees bring a wide variety of backgrounds, perspectives, and life experiences to our practice.  By recruiting, retaining, developing, and promoting a diverse group of lawyers, we advance the interests of our clients, our practice, and our entire profession.

24 percent of the partners in our London office are women.

Our first women and minority partners were elected more than 35 years ago.  Women, African-American, Hispanic, Asian-American and openly gay lawyers hold senior positions throughout the firm, including on the Management Committee and in practice group leadership.  Today the firm has 61 women partners, nine African-American partners, five openly gay partners, seven Hispanic partners, and ten Asian partners.  In all, over 160 of our lawyers are African-American, Asian, Hispanic or openly gay.  Covington is recognized as a leader not only in attracting minority lawyers, but also for providing opportunities so that all lawyers can successfully pursue rewarding legal careers.

Covington’s Diversity Committee works diligently to frame and support our workplace diversity efforts, including: working with firm leadership to recruit and retain lawyers of diverse experiences and backgrounds; promoting an open dialogue at the firm on issues of diversity; and fostering an environment in which diversity can flourish.
