Diversity
At Covington, we recognise the differences among us as an asset and a source of strength. We believe that excellence in the practice of law knows no racial, ethnic, gender, religious, sexual orientation, or other boundaries. Covington lawyers and trainees bring a wide variety of backgrounds, perspectives, and life experiences to our practice. By recruiting, retaining, developing, and promoting a diverse group of lawyers, we advance the interests of our clients, our practice, and our entire profession.
24 percent of the partners in our London office are women. Women, African-American, Hispanic, Asian-American and openly gay lawyers hold senior positions throughout the firm, including on the Management Committee and in practice group leadership.
Our graduate recruiting and trainee programs reflect our focus on increasing the diversity of our lawyers. 55 percent of 2012 vacation scheme applicants were women and 31 percent came from diverse backgrounds. 50 percent of 2012 vacation scheme attendees were women and 37.5 percent came from diverse backgrounds.
With regards to 2011 training contracts, 58 percent of the applicants were women and 36 percent were from diverse backgrounds.
