Adam Smith joined the firm following several years of work in the international arena.  He has spent time in multilateral institutions and on the ground in regions including Africa, Europe, and Asia where he worked on trade, economic development, public policy, and international justice matters.  His practice in the International and Litigation groups leverages these experiences.

Representative Matters

  • Counsel to respondent in ATA v. Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan (ICSID Case No. ARB/08/2).
  • Counsel to claimant in Phoenix Action Ltd. v. Czech Republic (ICSID Case No. ARB/06/5).
  • Counsel a sovereign wealth fund on a range of investment and national security policy issues.
  • Assist a developing African state in crafting more competitive trade policies and establishing closer regional integration.

Pro Bono

  • On an ongoing basis provides legal assistance to the Office of the Co-Prosecutors at the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (the Khmer Rouge Tribunal).  The purpose of the Tribunal is to bring to trial senior leaders and those most responsible for crimes committed during the period of Democratic Kampuchea between 1975 and 1979.
